If you are someone who dreads allergy season because of the pollen, we may have some good news for you. Instead of having to suffer from allergy symptoms, there are some steps you can take to get some relief. However, it’s best to start preparing and taking precautions before you wake up with itchy eyes and a runny nose. As things begin to bloom and the mowing season kicks off, here are 4 of the best ways to prepare for allergy season:

1. Know Your Allergy Triggers

While there is a time during early spring that is typically known as the allergy season, you probably know that these symptoms can pop up at various times throughout the year. Depending on where you live, things will begin blooming at different times. Also, everyone may be allergic to different things. For example, one person may be allergic to tree pollen that comes in the spring, while another person may be allergic to grass weed which is most common in the fall. If you are unsure what is causing your allergy symptoms, you can go to an allergist who will perform a test to determine what is causing the issue.

2. Stock Up on Allergy Medicine

There is nothing worse than waking up with a runny nose and congestion only to realize you don’t have any medication in the cabinet. As the peak season for allergies arrives, be sure to stock up ahead of time on your daily allergy medications. It may also be helpful to pick up some nasal rinses, which can be used to clear out the mucus and allergens that get built up in your nasal passages. If over-the-counter medicines don’t cut it, your doctor or allergist can also prescribe some stronger allergy medications.

3. Pay Attention to Pollen Reports

It’s important to know that pollen counts can change daily. Therefore, before you head out to start your day, it’s never a bad idea to check the weather forecast for an updated pollen report. This is especially crucial during allergy season or when you plan to be outside for an extended period of time. If you need to complete yard maintenance or any form of gardening, be sure to schedule it for the later part of the day or after heavy rain. While inside during the spring months, be sure to keep all your windows and doors closed and change your air filters frequently.

4. Schedule a Vacation

If you know that you suffer from allergy symptoms during a certain time of the year, why not take that opportunity to travel to an area where pollen counts are not as high? If you routinely take a week-long vacation every year, try to schedule it during a time when pollen is the highest so you can enjoy a trip while also not having to suffer from allergies.
